Cops hot on trail of fitness trainer
Mumbai: Police are believed to have zeroed in on Deepak Mallik, who shot at television actor and model Sanjana Shrivastava.
Though investigating officers were tightlipped, sources said the police teams sent to north India to track down Mallik were likely to return with him. Additional police commissioner Bipin Bihari said: “We are certain Mallik will soon be in our custody. He cannot escape.’’
There were reports of a lawyer camping in Mumbai to apply for anticipatory bail for Mallik. Bihari dismissed them as rumours and said, “Mallik will be arrested as we have strong evidence against him.’’
Mallik has been accused of shooting the 23-year-old model in the head at Oshiwara’s Joggers Park. In her statement to the police, Sanjana had said she had loaned Mallik Rs 40,000 and when she asked him for the money, the couple had an argument after which Mallik shot her in the presence of two of his roommates.
Sanjana has been recuperating at a hospital and plans to quit the glamour world and return to Lucknow. She will probably pursue higher studies, her family members said.
Sources said Sanjana was disturbed as she was shot for simply demanding her own money. But she is determined to bring the attacker to book. Her statement has been recorded and she has provided clues to help policemen nab the suspect, they added. TNN
